What is re-mapping?

All vehicles manufactured after 1999 are fitted with an onboard computer called an “Electronic Control Unit” (E.C.U). The ECU monitors and controls the ignition timing, fuelling, air intake and boost pressure of an engine, and its parameters are pre-programmed from manufacture.
The program installed by the manufacturer is set to allow for build tolerances into their engines and to over comply with emission standards. It is also set to withstand operation in extreme environments, cope with sub-standard fuel quality found in some countries and allow for some owners’ sub-standard service intervals and driving.
ECU remapping a vehicle re-programs the parameters within the ECU and the outcome is a much more responsive, fuel efficient and smoother running vehicle. The ECU remapping procedure may sound very complicated to some, and does indeed utilise extremely advanced technology, but in principle is very simple.

What exactly is involved in re-mapping?

First we will need to plug our specialist equipment into your vehicle’s ECU port or socket. This is usually found underneath the dashboard or under the bonnet in the engine bay. Once plugged in, our equipment reads the ECU and downloads a computer file containing the relevant data needed to ascertain how the vehicle is currently performing. Then the file is analysed and a new file containing totally new parameters is uploaded to the ECU and hey presto!
All immobiliser and chassis information is safely retained upon this procedure.
We feel it is also important to mention that, all of our remaps are custom written on the day, are 100% unique to each individual vehicle that we carry out work on, and not ‘off the shelf’ pre-programmed ‘problem files’ that so many companies do use.
We offer a complete peace of mind package as all work carried out comes with a 7 day money back guarantee just in case you are not fully satisfied, and a lifetime guarantee on all OMG software/files installed. So you can be rest assured your vehicle is in safe hands.

Does a vehicle need to be fitted with a turbo to benefit from a re-map?
No. Although a vehicle fitted with a turbo system will benefit the most, a normally aspirated engine can also benefit from up to a 15% increase in power with careful adjustments within the vehicle’s ECU.

How long does it take?
This can take anything from thirty minutes to two hours, depending on the make and model of the vehicle.
We can also come to you, so there’s no need to take time out from your work or home life.

Anti-tuning Remaps
Since mid 2009 we have seen the introduction of protected Bosch EDC17 & MED17 using an Infineon Tricore processor, and people are often told that these new Tricore ECUs cannot be remapped as the vehicle has “Tuning protection” or the ECU itself is “Locked”, this simply is not true! There is no such thing as a “Locked” or “Anti-tuning” software, however, there are many inexperienced or poorly equipped tuners that do not understand these ECUs and rather than admit they have no knowledge on these latest systems, they simply say it is not possible.

Here at OMG we do have a safe and reliable solution for programing these ECUs, this is via a Bootloader technique as pictured above, which involves the removal of the ECU from the vehicle and making a direct connection allowing the reading and writing of the Tricore processor. This is the only safe way to remap any EDC17 or MED17 ECU, because please remember, these ECUs were introduced firstly without any protection (pre 2009), which would allow OBD flashing, but during normal servicing or warranty repairs, the dealers do have the ability to update the old non protected software with the new “Anti-tuning” versions, where this is the case, any attempts to reprogram the ECU via the OBD (On Board Diagnostics) can cause fatal damage to the ECU.
